Anthony Gomes, shot at The City Winery in Nashville, TN 5/29/19. This pairs two live fan favorites ‘Bluebird’, from the 2006 release ‘Music is The Medicine’, and Gomes tribute to B.B.King ‘Come Down’ from ‘Peace, Love, & Loud Guitars’.
It has been an amazing year, full of special moments for The Blues & Roots Digital Archive. This informal, semi-unplugged set from Mike Zito & Albert Castiglia at the Charlotte, NC., Marriott Hotel was not only one of our favorite sets of 2019, but one of the highlights of the two day Intrepid Artists 25th Anniversary event, held Nov. 8th & 9th. Albert & Mike played close to an hour and a half featuring cuts from both artists new 2019 releases, as well as digging deep into the catalogs of each. Enjoy this classic performance from two of today’s most popular bluesmen, Mike Zito & Albert Castiglia
Anthony Gomes caught live earlier this year at The City Winery in Nashville. Peace, Love & Loud Guitars is the title track of his most recent album. This live version segues into an as of yet untitled piece which expresses his unapologetic view of those that feel there’s too much rock in the blues. Not only is Anthony one of the top guitarists in blues today, but is a scholar of the blues, having written the book, ‘The Black & White of The Blues’. B.B. King is his hero and mentor. Anthony has adopted much of B.B.’s attitude and plays what comes from the soul. Some of it is loud and straightforward, with some humor thrown in, but it can also be the sweetest sounding traditional style of blues you’ll ever hear, either way, it’s real and it’s the blues. Enjoy!
April 19th at The Ale & The Witch in St. Pete, FL was a special night for The Albert Castiglia Band. This show debuts the talents of Albert’s new bassist, Justine Tompkins, and is the premier of two of the new tracks from Albert’s forthcoming album, ‘Masterpiece’. This particular song, ‘Bring On The Rain’ was the last song recorded for the album, and takes Albert’s talent as a songwriter and musician to another level. It’s fitting that it was a blustery outdoor spring night that saw the debut of this intense track. Along with Albert on guitar and vocals, Brian Menendez is on drums, and Justine Tompkins on bass. More from a fantastic performance by John Nemeth and his band at The Palladium Theatre in St. Pete, FL, back in November 2018. In addition to John, we have Matthew Wilson on guitar & vocals, Danny Banks on drums & vocals, and Willie G. Stephens on keyboards & vocals. Blues In My Heart really shows the deep passionate blues this band can dig down and do. Matthew Wilson really shows some great blues guitar work in this track. Here’s Mitch Woods supported by T-Bone Hamilton & The Blues All Stars, doing the Fats Domino classic ‘Blue Monday’. This was from a great night of boogie & blues at The Firehouse Cultural Center in Ruskin, FL. Joining Mitch is T-Bone Hamilton on bass, Jon Puhl on guitar, Eric Elsner on drums, and very special guest Valerie Gillespie on saxophone. The entire show was top shelf, and the crowd was great. This is a cool little venue for live blues and jazz. www.mitchwoods.com
