Mike Zito – “Make Blues Not War – Fortunate Son” – Tampa Bay Blues Fest – 2019-04-14

Sometimes a certain performance will just jump out and grab you. That’s how I felt at this year’s Tampa Bay Blues Fest during the finale of Mike Zito’s set. It was a blustery Sunday, Mike and his band, Terry Dry, Matthew Johnson, and Lewis Stephens, had put more miles behind them recently than they probably cared to remember, but you’d never know by watching. This two song set to finish things up was emotional and energy filled. See if you don’t agree. Make a point to catch these guys live, for their current schedule check Mike Zito’s social media pages or

Ronnie Earl & Chris (Kid) Royal – ‘Inn Between’ Goodwill Blues Show(pt1) – 2019-06-14

Part 1 of the 6 part video series from Salt Lake City, Utah during the Utah Blues Festival: Ronnie Earl & The Utah Blues Society arranged a community outreach show at The Inn Between, a hospice for the homeless. Initially, Ronnie Earl was to play 30 minutes for the residents & staff. Instead, we enjoyed (almost) an hour-long performance by: Ronnie Earl, Sue Foley, Chris K Royal, & Dave Clark along with Utah Blues Society board member, Tripp Hopkins. These talented musicians provided an afternoon of friendship & entertainment for a very grateful audience. This heartfelt event shows just one example of how The Blues has healing power, the kindness of its community & the generosity of its musicians. Anthony Gomes – “Bluebird / Come Down” – 2019-05-29

Anthony Gomes caught live earlier this year at The City Winery in Nashville. Peace, Love & Loud Guitars is the title track of his most recent album. This live version segues into an as of yet untitled piece which expresses his unapologetic view of those that feel there’s too much rock in the blues. Not only is Anthony one of the top guitarists in blues today, but is a scholar of the blues, having written the book, ‘The Black & White of The Blues’. B.B. King is his hero and mentor. Anthony has adopted much of B.B.’s attitude and plays what comes from the soul. Some of it is loud and straightforward, with some humor thrown in, but it can also be the sweetest sounding traditional style of blues you’ll ever hear, either way, it’s real and it’s the blues. Enjoy!
